SIMULTANEOUS INTERPRETATION

facts and tips

Booths High Vantage W.jpg

Simultaneous interpreters work from specially designed sound-proof translation booths equipped with high-tech translation hardware. They listen to the proceedings through earphones and relay the message in a target language in real-time, with no pauses or interruptions.

Conference interpreters always work in pairs, in shifts of 20-30 minutes due to the very stressful and demanding nature of their function. This task is so demanding for a human brain that it requires a natural disposition and years of practice.

The interpreters should have a clear view of the speaker and must hear him/her clearly. This is where professional interpretation equipment and technical support are of utmost importance.

OTHER TYPES OF INTERPRETATION

FOR YOUR CROSS-CULTURAL COMMUNICATION

CONSECUTIVE

After completing 2-3 sentences, the speaker pauses and waits for the interpreter to translate the message to the audience. This takes twice the time and can be tiring for the speaker and for the audience.

WHISPERING

This is similar to simultaneous but with no equipment and the audience is limited to just a couple of people. The interpreter sits next to the listeners and actually whispers the translated content. Not suitable for groups.

MOBILE SIMULTANEOUS

The interpreter  uses a portable transmitter & participants listen to the interpretation using portable radio receivers. Great for guided tours and interpretation on the go in unequipped venues. Click to learn more.
